Our first year’s relationship with British Muslim TV has opened many doors for us; lifestyle exhibitions, advertising opportunities and getting to know like-minded pioneering halal food companies, such as ieat just to name a few! None more so than the offer for Mark, our founder, to appear on the lively Sisters’ Hour magazine show, to talk about his inspiration and journey in the creation of for aisha halal baby food.
Mark was hesitant. Despite being thrilled about the opportunity that this appearance would present for us, he had never appeared on TV before His total experience on film consisted of his brother making home made movies of him that were less than flattering (older brothers are rarely supportive!) and casually roller skating past the news camera team a few times in a supermarket car park.
The apprehension wasn’t much eased when he asked Nadia, one of the show’s presenters, which other males had been on the show and she replied that Sami Yusuf and Amir Khan had made appearances. “Why on Earth would anybody want to hear about baby food after seeing those people?!” he questioned. Nadia assured him that baby food can be just as interesting for the show, so he decided to get out of his comfort zone and go for it.
The team at BMTV were fantastic. They made him very welcome and at ease; even though when mic-ing up, he felt that he was being prepped for the operating theatre. Once sitting down with hosts, Nadia and Sakina, it felt just like a conversation with friends. The team tasted the food on air, and asked him questions about the health benefits and why he set up the company.
Nadia finished up by saying that our weaning guide, written by our for aisha dietitian, is available for free from the website after the show – you can download the baby food weaning guide here. As soon as Mark left he said that he wanted to get straight back in there to talk more about reviews from parents, future plans and planned charity work – perhaps he will be fortunate enough to be invited back to do that soon.
Whilst Mark won’t say that he did a good job, he did enjoy the experience. We hope you find the segment useful and welcome feedback and questions on Facebook following the show.
A huge thank you to the Sisters’ Hour team and see you again soon 🙂
